Week 2: Aspects of Social Media

I believe that almost all social media platforms can be geared for both business and personal use, however there are a few exceptions. I think Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Twitter can be used strictly for personal use. People love to talk about themselves or fixate on what they are doing or have done. These specific platforms allow them to create their own virtual world whether it’s through audio, pictures, video or words.
The platform I feel is geared strictly for business is Linkedin because of the content associated with the platform such as resumes and job listings. This platform is crucial for a normal everyday person looking for new career opportunities. This platform is also crucial for any human resources department looking for new employees in the career field available for hire. This could be the only platform that couldn’t be used for both business and personal.

All the social media platforms I listed in the first paragraph can be used for personal and business use. It seems to be becoming a standard that all businesses have all of the platforms in modern society. It would make sense to me if I were a business owner, the more social media outlets I have, more opportunity for consumers to see the business.

  1. Hey Izik,
I think it can be a bit of a bad move to have a business use all social media sites. Mostly because I find it's hard for them to keep up on. But if they can keep up and keep good content, you're so right, it can be good! What social media platforms do you use for personal or business?

    1. I actually don't use any... our band had a facebook for awhile to post shows and music but nothing now. I can't agree more with you though. Only if you can be on top of it and responsive should you have all platforms.

  2. Before having my own business, I mostly used Facebook and Pinterest for personal use but once I've run my company, I learn a lot more how social media would be a great way to expand my business. However, I do need to choose wisely which social media I would use effectively due to time constraint.

  3. Good discussion here! I agree with Jennifer in that if you can't keep up with it then it is bad for to venture there at all. One important key is how promptly you respond to posts. To not respond is to show either your business is defunct or that you don't care. Unless you have hired someone to do your responding, then I think it is best to choose one or two and stick to those.

  5. I love the post! Definitely I would have to agree that its hard to separate personal and business in todays world. Therefor all platforms can be used for either. Its interesting to see how the opinions differ depending on each persons personal experiences with these platforms.

  7. This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. smm panel
